2007-04-12 Interview with A.Kiausas
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify">An athletic <metric2 metric_text="cm" metric_value="199" w:st="on" />199 cm</metric2 /> forward Aivaras Kiausas not only was one of the main players in Sakalai’s rotation this year, but also entertained fans with high-flying dunks. 26-year-old this season became LKL slam dunk champion, while in the SEB BBL analogical contest ended up second. A.Kiausas decided to finish this season in Gestiberica Vigo club (Spanish 3rd league).</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p> </p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">- Why you have decided to play in this Spanish team?</b></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- In some leagues it is still possible to register new players, so I thought it would be more useful to go there. My agent found this team and I’m planning to finish this season in <country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Spain</place /></country-region />.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Do you feel any discomfort playing not in a very strong club?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- Of course it’s the third league in <place w:st="on" /><country-region w:st="on" />Spain</country-region /></place />, but it’s a better opportunity to play here rather than stay in Sakalai for two remaining games. Realistically there are two games left for <city w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Vilnius</place /></city />’ team and the season is over, while here I’ll be able to play more than a month. Furthermore, maybe someone will notice me. Even if not, my shape will be much better and the break between the spring and autumn won’t be that long.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p> </p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- What about financial circumstances in <place w:st="on" /><country-region w:st="on" />Spain</country-region /></place />. Does it meet the requirements?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- Financial situation is way better than in <place w:st="on" /><country-region w:st="on" />Lithuania</country-region /></place />. Everything is fine over there.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Are you already thinking about the next season?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- I don’t think about it yet. During the summer I’ll participate in various training camps. If I won’t get any offers from foreign clubs, I’ll probably play in <country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Lithuania</place /></country-region />. Nowadays it’s not that bad to play in a native country.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Were you satisfied playing in Sakalai team?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- Not really, because both team’s and my situation was not exactly what we wanted it to be. I wasn’t satisfied with my performance there and if you don’t play well, you can’t complain about few minutes you get.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- When was the first time you dunked the ball into the basket? What was your height then?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- I don’t remember what my height was and I can’t reminisce about my age either, but I know that I was in high school back then. During the physical preparation practices we did all the required features: speed, quickness, strength and of course leap.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Have you ever measured your vertical leap after run-up and without it?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- We had that kind of tests some time ago, but I can’t remember the exact results. I can reach the rim after run-up, so because the rim stands in <metric2 metric_text="cm" metric_value="305" w:st="on" />305 cm</metric2 /> and I’m almost <metric2 metric_text="cm" metric_value="200" w:st="on" />200 cm</metric2 />, that means my vertical leap is more than 1 metre.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Did you have an accident of unsuccessful dunk over a girl?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><br />- No, but I kicked sorely in Justas Sinica’s back when I practiced before the dunk contest.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- What was the furthest place on the court you was able to make a dunk from?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify">- I made a dunk stepping on the free throw line.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><strong>- Have you ever broken the rim?</strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p /><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify">- Couple of times. Also, I shattered the backboard twice, but it wasn’t a quality backboards and it didn’t happen in a high-level basketball games, it was either in practices or high school games. </p>
