2008-04-25 Lietuvos Rytas rises to the occasion - beats Barons/LMT
In the first semifinal of SEB BBL final four being held in Siauliai Barons/LMT could not contain Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius club and was forced to recognize the Lithuanian team’s strength 73:89.
The Latvians started it off very well and got an early lead in double figures as Raimonds Vaikulis made the basket after 4 minutes of play in the first quarter. Lietuvos Rytas reduced their deficit to 4 points as the first period ended – 17:21. It seemed like Aleksandar Trifunovic made the right adjustments after this horrible first quarter and Lietuvos Rytas looked way better later on. They tied the game and got a pretty solid lead when Kenan Bajramovic made his outside shot – 39:27. The Latvians quickly made it just a 4-point game, while at the half the result was 42:36 up by Vilnius’ team.
Early in the third quarter Barons/LMT club was unable to execute things on the offensive end. They appeared scoreless in 3 minutes and Lietuvos Rytas certainly took advantage of it scoring 10 points without an answer, so after almost 4 minutes of play in this period Lietuvos Rytas led 55:38. After three quarters the Lithuanians had 17 points advantage.
The rest of the game appeared to be just a formality as Lietuvos Rytas continued to play well. They relaxed a bit at the end of the regulation, but the margin was too big and not enough time there was left for Barons/LMT to make the scenario different.
Chuck Eidson scored 16 points, had 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the win, Marijonas Petravicius collected 14. Kaspars Berzins stood out of Barons/LMT club with 16 points, Armands Skele had 14 (7 rebs.).
