2009-01-03 Lietuvos Rytas shows class to ASK Riga

Even though ASK Riga got a fast lead and increased it even till plus 14 points, they could not hold the offensive pressure made by Rytas. The final result was 87:108 (35:29, 6:29, 25:26, 21:24) in the favour of team Lietuvos Rytas.


Starters: ASK Riga – Helmanis, Mazutis, Sundov, Vitols, Bertans
Lietuvos Rytas – Bjelica, Petravicius, Eidson, Lukauskis, Milisavljevic


Captain of team ASK Riga Sandis Valters due to the injury today sit on the bench and even did not warmed-up with the team mates. The result of the game was opened by Petravicius. ASK Riga answered with three-pointer made by Helmanis but Bertans added a dunk. On the other side of the field Rytas scored two but Mazutis answered with two free-throws making it 9:4 in the favour of ASK Riga. Rytas again missed their shot but Helmanis again was precise from beyond the arc. Rytas made a turnover in their attack but ASK was precise again 14:4. Rytas asked for a time-out but this did not help them as the shot again was missed. Then ASK made a turnover and Rytas finally scored 14:6. Sundov had an opportunity to shoot free-throws and he did not miss. Lietuvos Rytas could not score once again but on the other side of the field Bertans realized a three-pointer and made it 19:6. Next on Lithuanians regained few points making it 19:10 but then Sundov realized three-pointer, Rytas answered with the same but Mazutis was precise from beyond the arc and the result was 25:13. Jomantas realized both free-throws for Rytas but Sundov was unstoppable as he made a jumper with a foul, however he missed the free-throw and it was 27:15. Bertans however realized both free-throws and plus 14 to ASK Riga. Lukauskis made a three-pointer for Rytas but ASK made a turnover giving for Rytas an opportunity to diminish the difference in the result. And they did it as Lukauskis again was precise from beyond the arc and it was 29:21. Grafs was two times precise from the free-throw line, however Lukauskis made just one out of two. Next on Jomantas added two free-throws and Bertans realized both as well and it was 33:24. In the last seconds both teams exchanged shots and the first quarter ended up with the result 35:29 ASK Riga being in front.


Arturas Jomantas was the one to open the result in the second quarter as he scored three-point shot. Bruno Sundov answered with the same and made the result 38:32. Further episodes was played better by Lietuvos Rytas as after Zavackas three-pointer they managed to get the lead in the game 39:40. Zavackas added two free-throws and made it 39:42 in the favour of Rytas. Milisavljevic made a three-point shot and already 39:45 for team Lietuvos Rytas. Then finally ASK scored as Grafs made a jump-shot. Jomantas increased the lead for Rytas 41:47. Further on Petravicius added two free-throws and Jomantas realized a jump-shot for Rytas making it 41:51. ASK still could not score and missed free-shots, however Rytas continued to be on fire setting the half-time result 41:58.


The second half started with a technical foul given to Kalve. Rytas realized both free-throws and Sinica added a three-pointer. Then Rytas continued to devastate the defence of ASK Riga and increased their lead till plus 27 points making the result 41:68. Then Rytas added two more and finally Vitols scored a three-pointer for ASK Riga making it 44:70. Then Rytas again scored three-pointer  and it was 44:73. Further on ASK Riga was able to decrease the lead till 14 points but then again Lietuvos Rytas was better and continued to outperform Latvian team. The final result of the game was 87:108 in the favour of the Lithuanians from Vilnius. This was the last game for Bruno Sundov – center of team ASK Riga.
