2009-01-04 A tough victory for Barons/LMT

After an impressive start Barons/LMT stopped their offence and organized an interesting ending of the game as they won only with the result 69:65 (30:16, 10:14, 10:19, 19:16).


Starters: Barons/LMT – Alexander, Skele, Gustas, Adomaitis, Berzins
Nevezis – Dabkus, Silinskis, Veikalas, Viskontas, Stankus


This was the first game for the new head coach of Barons/LMT Edgars Teteris. Just before the new year the team administration and the previous head coach Karlis Muiznieks decided to stop the cooperation. First minutes of the game was equal as the result was 5:5. Then a small lead of five points got Barons/LMT making the result 10:5. After effort of Berzins Barons/LMT increased their lead again and it was 15:8. Nevezis was forced to take a time-out. Then again with the help of Berzins and Adomaitis Barons got a lead of nine points 20:11. The final minutes of this quarter was under the sign of Barons/LMT as they got a lead of sixteen points 30:14, however the score after the first ten minutes was 30:16 in the favour of team Barons/LMT.


In the beginning of the second quarter Barons/LMT again managed to increase their lead making the result 36:18 and it looked like they will continue in this kind of manner, however it did not happen as both teams had problems with scoring their points. When it was a little bit more than two minutes left to play in the first half of the game it was still 38:21. These last two minutes in the first half was played really good by the team Nevezis as they came as close as 40:30. It promised an interesting second half of the game.


In the first minutes after the big break Barons/LMT managed to hold their lead around plus ten points, however then Nevezis came closer and closer. Two and a half minutes till the end of the third quarter it was a minimal lead to team Barons/LMT 46:45. However, then Nevezis took over the lead in the game 48:49. But the final word in this quarter belonged to Barons/LMT as they regained the lead 50:49.


The final ten minutes started very interesting as leaders changed few more times. A little bit more than five minutes till the end of the game it was 57:57. Then Barons/LMT with a team efforts made a run of ten points and made it 67:57. But Nevezis tried to do something and they did as they managed to decrease the difference in the result till minus four but that was it and the game ended with the result 69:65.
