2008-12-30 Valmiera appeared to be better in a principal duel

Team Valmiera were the hosts in a game against a neighbours in a tournament table Nevezis. The hosts won the game with the result 84:77 (23:16, 18:24, 22:20, 21:17).


Starters: Valmiera – Clark, Bankevics, Sirsnins, Poznaks, Ziedins
Nevezis – Viskontas, Dabkus, Leonavicius, Silinskis, Stankus


The beginning of the game was devastating for the Lithuanians Nevezis as they made turnovers or missed their shots. As a consequence Valmiera got a fast lead of 10:0 thanks to the efforts of Bankevics, Poznaks and Sirsnins. Nevezis was forced to ask for a time-out. After a time out game equalized and both teams scored, however Valmiera kept the lead in the game. When almost three minutes were left to play in the first quarter Valmiera got its biggest lead of 14 points making the result 23:9. However the end of the quarter was played better by Nevezis and they managed to decrease the lead of Valmiera till minus seven points. The first quarter ended up with the result 23:16 Valmiera leading the game.


The second quarter of the game started as Leonavicius and Sirsnins exchanged three-pointers. Next on Elliott and Lisauskas both scored jumpers and still plus seven for team Valmiera. Further on both teams continued to score point by point as Cavars shot from beyond the arc and Veikalas answered with the same. Then Elliott realized a jumper but on the other side of the field Dabkus did the same. The result was 33:26 at this moment. Then Nevezis made a run and decreased the lead of Valmiera till minimum 33:32. Then finally Valmiera scored points as well as Elliott made a three-point shot but Clark added two-pointer making it 38:32. Then again Nevezis made a run and took over the lead in the game 38:39. Next on Bankevics realized jump-shot and got fouled, he scored free-throw as well. In the final second of the first half Viskontas made one free-throw out of two and set the final result of two quarters 41:40 Valmiera being in front.


The second half of the game started with the slam-dunk made by Clark. This was just the fourth point in this game scored by Clark. Then both teams played a positional game and looked really equal. The result grew equally as well but Valmiera kept the lead by few points but then after four minutes of playing in the second half Dabkus equalized the result 49:49. Next on Bankevics regained the lead to team Valmiera but Sakinis with three-pointer led in front Nevezis. Further on in a free-throw competition both teams exchanged the leading positions but then Amolins with a lay-up made Valmiera the leaders 55:54. That was not for long as Leonavicius made a lay-up as well. Bankevics answered with two free-throws,however Viskontas scored only one and it was equal again 57:57. The final minute of this quarter was played better by the hosts as they got a small lead of 63:60.


Sakinis opened the result in the final quarter of the game only when almost two minutes were played. He realized a three-pointer and equalized the result. Then Poznaks scored 5 points in a row including a three-pointer and Nevezis asked for a time-out. After five minutes of a play in this quarter it was 72:68 in the favour of Valmiera. Then Dabkus scored a two-pointer making it 72:70. But on the next episodes Sirsnins said his word as he realized two three-pointers in a row and it was 78:70 for Valmiera. Nevezis asked for a time-out. Next on Valmiera managed to increase their lead till plus nine points. Valmiera hold the lead in the end of the game and in a tough game got a victory against their principal rivals Nevezis with the result 84:77.
