2008-12-05 Chuck Eidson: "Sireika gives us more freedom"
Author: Edvardas Chmieliauskas

The MVP of the month in November became all-around forward from Lietuvos rytas Vilnius Chuck Eidson. The American averaged 16,8 points, 6,5 rebounds and 4 assists. So far he is the most efficient player in Elite Division with an average rating of 25. Meanwhile, his team was undefeated in the previous month winning all 4 games.

- Chuck, did you expect to become the MVP of the month?

- Not really, but it is very nice to be part of what we do right now. If i'm right, we were 4-0 during that month and for us that's big. Any accomplishment I get individually is really nice, but most importantly our team is doing well.

- What is the reason of your team's spectacular play?

- I think at first we did not have a good chance to play with each other and now we start to know each other a little bit more. SEB BBL is very tough this year - every night you have to come out and play hard, otherwise you know what's gonna happen.

- What are the goals of Lietuvos Rytas this season?

- I think any time you start the season, you want to win every game and for us being on top is legitimate goal. This is what we have to see throuh.

- What about your personal goals?

- Last year with Lietuvos Rytas we did not win SEB BBL and the Lithuanian league, so for me this year personally I really want to win at least those two leagues.

- This is not your debut season in SEB BBL, you also played here last season, do you see any differences, can you say that the league is more competitive now?

- Yes, the competition now is a lot more even than it was last year, which is a good thing for the league. Any game you can lose or win and it brings a lot more intrigue.

- Despite Lietuvos Rytas, could you name the favorites to win SEB BBL championship this season?

- I think other than us ASK Riga has pretty good chances. We lost to them this season and even though their team didn't start the season very well, they are contenders.

- This season the coach of the team is Antanas Sireika. What are the differences between his strategy and the previous coach Aleksandr Trifunovic?

- The main differences are that Antanas Sireika gives us a lot more freedom. Coach Trifunovic had it all mapped out of what he wanted us to do. This season we have more open space individually and can be more creative.

- Probably that kind of system is better for you and that's why your statistics got boosted.

- Of course it is nice because I have an opportunity not just to have the ball, but also run off screens as well as bring the ball up. It definitely eases things in a lot of different ways.

- It is noticeable that Lietuvos Rytas team's defense is kind of limping right now, don't you think that this is the aspect that you have to improve as a team?

- You're exactly right, if you look at the games that we have lost, we scored a lot of points in them, but the problem was that we needed to get stops. We'll try to improve it, because it's the defense that wins championships.

- It's second year for you in Lithuania, how do you like the country?

- I really do like it, but it's very cold in here. The place I am from in the Unite States is warmer, so that is different, but if you're a basketball player and you want to play somewhere, this is a place you should play, because people love this game so much here.
