Kalev/Cramo was only two minutes away from making the biggest surprise of the MasterCard BBL season. The hosts led 81:72 against Zalgiris with 2.10 left to play but "The Greens" closed the game with a 10:0 run and achieved their 10th win this season.
Marcus Brown led the Greens with 21 points including a decisive three-pointer with 55 seconds left. Travis Watson added 18 points fir the winners. Charron Fisher led the home team with 27 points.
Both teams started the game well. Altough Zalgiris was mostly the leader in the first minutes, Kalev never fell too far behind and was able to tie the game in the final seconds of the first period.
The second period was even more close. Point by point game contiuned all ten minutes. Fisher was simply on fire, as he made already his 16th point with two minutes left in the first half. Eventually, both teams headed to halftime break with a tie - 45:45.
Zalgiris started the second half full of enthusiasm, making a quick 7-to-nothing run. Tanel Sokk's three-pointer cut the visitors lead to four. Still, seemed like Zalgiris was pulling away, as Kalnietis's two-points put lithuanians ahead by eight. But, Marko Riis and Josh Akognon thought otherwise, as they connected two three-pointers during the next offensive possessions, and Kalev was trailing againg by four, 54:58. With three-minutes left, Fisher shot his 20th point, and the tie was now standing only a bucket away. The quarter ended with a duel between Fisher and Watson, as they both made few shots for their teams, finally Kalev was trailing only by one, 63:64.
Rait Keerles put finally Kalev ahead by one. Still, the lead went one way to the next, until Siim-Sander Vene, Estonia's own, hit four straight, and gave Zalgiris a three-point lead. Then, unfortunate to visitors, Kalev hit a second gear, and made a 11-0 run.
With two minutes left, Akognon and Salenga exchanged three-pointers, and the score was 81:75, home team still ahead. With a minute left, Watsons free-throw cut Kalev lead to four, and another three-pointer from Brown made the score close again - 81:80. Kalev had to take a time-out. With 11 seconds left, Klimavicius dunk put Zalgiris ahead. Kalev had lost a heart-breaker. Final score 81:82.
Marcus Brown had 21 points, Travis Watson added 18 and 7 rebounds. Kalnietis contributed with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists.
Charron Fisher was game's best with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Josh Akognon added 19 (5 threes).
