2009-10-13 Siauliai wins Valmiera on the road

In the third quarter Siauliai was leading the game by plus 25 points but in the end they organized a nervous ending and got a happy win. The final result of the game was 77:84 (19:24, 14:28, 22:19, 20:13).


Starters: Valmiera – Kaufmanis, Valeika, Cresnar, Strupovics, Andzejevskis
Siauliai – Brown, Sarakauskas, Kuzminskas, Siksnius, Low


The game started equally as both teams managed to exchange the points. After two minutes of play the result was still in balance 4:4. Then Kuzminskas made a slam dunk and gained a lead for Siauliai, however Cresnar answered with the same – organizing an effective slam dunk. So, once again equal – 6:6. Then Siauliai gained a small lead 8:9 and then they made an impressive run of 0:8. During this time Low realized two three-pointers but Siksnius and Kuzminskas both made lay-ups’. However then Andzejevskis from team Valmiera organized a one man show by scoring 8 points in a row. He realized two three point shots and a lay-up. The result was 16:19 in the favour of team Valmiera. Till the end of the quarter Siauliai increased their lead and finished it with the result 19:24.


The result of the second quarter was opened by Valmiera player Andzejevskis and Valmiera came as close as minus three points. Two minutes later Valmiera was able to diminish the difference in the result till minus two points making the result 27:29. However, that was it. Now on Siauliai organized a run 0:14. At first Siksnius scored a three-pointer, then Grafs dunked but Low made a lay-up. Moving on Petraitis made a two-pointer with a foul and realized a free-throw as well. Further on Low and Petraitis once again were precise and the result was 27:43. Further on Siauliai continued to devastate the defence of team Valmiera increasing their lead till 28:49. At the end of the first half Valmiera managed to decrease the difference in the result and finish it with the result 35:52.


After the half-time Siauliai did not want to stop and continued to dominate in the game increasing their lead till plus 23 points 35:58. Andzejevskis was still the leader for Valmiera stopping Siauliai run. Next on Siauliai controlled the game and after five minutes of play in this quarter the result was 39:64. Then with the help of Andzejevskis whom helped Valeika, Amolins and Graudins Valmiera made a run of 11:0. Siauliai was forced to take a time-out and it helped. Kuzminskas and Gailius both realized two free-throws and Siauliai came back 50:68. Graudins realized a three point shot for Valmiera. Gailius, however realized only one out of two free-throws but Valmiera answered with four points making the result 57:69. The final word in this quarter belonged to Siauliai as they finished it up 57:71.


In the first minutes of the final part of the game Siauliai managed to hold their lead around ten points. After four minutes of play the result was 65:76 in the favour of team Siauliai. However, when there were just five minutes left to play Valmiera managed to decrease the lead of Siauliai till minus nine points 69:78 and Siauliai asked for a time-out. Then both teams could not score for a few minutes and they exchanged missed shots. The first team to wake up was Valmiera who scored a three-pointer making the result 72:78. Zukauskas answered with a lay-up but then Andzejevskis realized one more three point shot and Valeika added two free-throws. 45 seconds till the end of the quarter Low made a lay-up making it 77:82. Valmiera asked for a time-out but after that Strupovics missed a three-pointer but Low realized two free-throws setting the final result of the game 77:84.
