In the Baltic Basketball league  (BBL) Elite Division game Zalgiris was good again. Kaunas team at home defeated  the opponents from Latvia  by  11  points.   But the visitors did not let to crush them from early on and kept intrigue until final minutes.

Zalgiris: M.Brown 22 (7rebs.), D.Salenga 13, Z.Janavicius, T.Klimavicius- 7.

Lauvas: L.Kisielius 18, O.Kojenets 16 (12 rebs.),J.Patmalnieks 10.

 

Lauvas played really well in the first quarter and was trailing by  just a couple of points for the most part of the time. After a 3-pointer by Marcus Brown the Lithuanians had a small lead by one point (9:8, 3min.). After Dainius Salenga and Siim Sander Vene shots Zalgiris got 7 points advantage (15:8), but later Lauvas cut their deficit until  3 points (16:13). Next on with the help of team work, Zalgiris increased their lead till plus 10 points  - 23:13. Till the end of the quarter Zalgiris managed to hold their lead and it finished with the result 27:15.

 

 

 

Zalgiris has made a run 5-0 and got the strong double-digit lead after more than 2 minutes of play in the second quarter. After Tadas Klimavicius  5 points without answer Zalgiris was in front by 17 points – 32:15, but Lauvas   showed character and came as close as 35:25.  However, Zalgiris firmly hold the lead and did not let the opponents close in the result. The first half of the game ended up with the 10 points  lead for Zalgiris 44:34.

 

 

 

In the third quarter of the game Lauvas Liepoja  did not want to give up, however they could not equalize the game or even regain the lead.Zalgiris  felt the rhythm and it was kind of a party out there in Kaunas Sports Hall (56:41, 5min.). Later Kojenets and Kisielius scored 5 points without answer and Lauvas came closer (56:46).  Kisielius added 2-pointer and Latvians reduced the gab till 8 points (56:48).  I the last minutes Lauvas organized a run (57:54, 2min.) and returned intrigue in this game.   The teams finished this quarter with the result 59:55 Zalgiris still being better.

 

 

 

In the final quarter of the game Zalgiris  leave some  hope for Lauvas Liepoja.  But not for long, not for long… Brown was unstoppable and scored two 2-pointers  and Kaunas team in the first minutes  increased its lead till plus 8 (63:55).    Salenga added 2 free-throws and it was 66:58 (4min.). Then again Brown devastated the defence of Lauvas  with 2 more points 70:58. So, the final word belonged to Zalgiris.  The Kaunas team celebrated the victory with the result 74:63.
