2010-08-17 Board of MasterCard Baltic Basketball League decides upon the season 2010/2011

On August 17th, The MasterCard BBL Board met in Riga.
The main accepted resolutions were:
1. Approval of the Elite Division Regulations, season 2010/2011.
The main differences with the previous season:
a. Participants: Lithuania - Lietuvos Rytas, Zalgiris, Siauliai, Nevezis, Perlas and Rudupis, Latvia – Ventspils, VEF Riga, Valmiera and Liepajas Lauvas, Estonia - Kalev/Cramo, TU/Rock and TTU, Sweden – Dolphins.
b. Competition format: 12 teams, excluding ZALGIRIS – participant in Euroleague and BBL Champion, season 2009/2010 and LIETUVOS RYTAS - participant in Euroleague and BBL Vice champion, season 2009/2010 will play in a round-robin format. The six (6) best teams after the Regular Season will qualify for the Play-offs phase, the teams finished 11th -12th will participate in the Promotion phase. The winners of the Play-offs will qualify for the Final Four phase.
c. Protests: Some changes relate to the making of the protests. They are based on the FIBA Rules, including the usage of the videos in case of the protests.
2. MasterCard BBL Board approved the deadline of the application in Challenge Cup till September the 11th. There will be some new teams, for example, BC Spartak-2 from St. Petersburg.
3. The opening event of the new MasterCard BBL season „BBL Cup” will take place in Tartu on September 24th-25th. The participants will be: Lietuvos Rytas, Ventspils, Kalev/Cramo and TU/Rock. The first Semifinal game will play Lietuvos Rytas and Ventspils on Friday at 18.15, the second – TU/Rock and Kalev/Cramo at 20.45. The Final games will be on Saturday at the same time. All games will be broadcasted by Viasat Sport Baltic.
4. The Regular season of MasterCard BBL will start on September 28th in Elite Division, on October 12th in Challenge Cup.
