TALLINN, Estonia – Bambale Osby has led TTU/Kalev to a 74-72 victory over Liepaja Lauvas despite a spirited comeback from their guests in the final quarter.
Osby was at his vintage best, collecting 24 points and 16 rebounds to again be the outstanding player for his team. By the time that Liepaja figured out a way to contain him in the final quarter it was too late with damage having already been inflicted.
Osby was involving himself from the opening whistle, scoring six of his sides first eight points with TTU/Kalev controlling play in the opening quarter. Liepaja were not helping their own cause, managing just 10 points.
If Liepaja had looked sluggish in the opening quarter, it was not about to improve in the second as the guests managed to score seven points on TTU/Kalev to see them trailing 35-17 at halftime.
Liepaja finally awoke to the task in the third quarter, tying the third quarter at 27 points apiece. But leading by 18 points TTU/Kalev appeared to have already had the game won.
That certainly appeared to be the attitude of the hosts with Liepaja shocking TTU/Kalev, chipping away at the lead throughout the quarter to be within striking distance in the final few seconds. Thankfully time was on the side of TTU/Kalev with Liepaja simply running out of time to complete their comeback.
Asides from Osby, Illimar Pilk was also prominent, ending the night with 19 points. Valmo Kriisa also impressed with eight points, eight assists and 10 rebounds.
Jurijs Aleksejevs impressed off the bench for Liepaja, leading scoring for his side with 19 points.
