MOSCOW, Russia – Despite some final quarter woes, Triumph has gone atop the BBL standings with a 65-57 win over visitors University of Tartu on Thursday night.

It was far from a perfect display of basketball from the Russian club but nonetheless it would be effective enough to get them home against one of the bottom teams in the BBL.

Both teams were suffering shooting woes in the opening frame, combining to sink just seven shots from the floor to leaving them tied at 11 when the quarter ended.

The shooting improved slightly in the second quarter and with Aleksandr Razumov hitting a jump shot less than a minute out from halftime, Triumph found themselves leading their guests by three points.

Razumov went on to end the night with a season best seven points.

Appearing in just his second BBL game for Triumph, Lazar Trifunovic provided his new team with the offensive spark they required in the third quarter, scoring 12 of his 13 points in the frame to help Triumph's lead go from three points to 15 with 10 minutes remaining.

However, the Moscow club failed to push home their advantage in the final ten minutes as all offensive momentum was lost with too many turnovers being made.

Marek Doronin played a key hand in leading the comeback, scoring six points before adding an assist to bring the score back within six with four minutes remaining.

Doronin finished with eight points whilst Vallu Allingu and Valmo Kriisa lead scoring for University of Tartu with 12 points each.

However, they would be left wondering what could have been as the gap showed itself to be too big to overcome.
